This Sweet Journey: Cakes

I've gotten into the habit of making and decorating cakes over the years, especially for my kids' birthday parties. There is only one person I can thank for picking up this hobby - my mom.

She's made cakes for as long as I can remember. Birthday cakes, Anniversary cakes, Graduation cakes, sheet cakes, round cakes, any kind of frosted, decorated cake - she made it. I was practically licking beaters at birth. Some day I will have to dig out old photos of us girls and the elaborate birthday cakes we had - always homemade, with love, by our mom.

Anyone who makes cakes knows that it can be a lot of work, leave behind a huge mess, and always have you fretting about whether or not it's going to turn out. But that never stopped my mom. She's made so many beautiful cakes over the years that she inspired me to bake and create my own cakes.

I've never attended a cake decorating class, so all you see here is what I've picked up from my mom and dared to try out myself. It's nothing too fancy, but people are often interested in my cakes, so I thought I'd put them all in one spot for easy viewing. Enjoy!
