Shades

Remember this problem?
Well, I found a deal on some shades online.
Only $18 for a roll-up shade,
cut to the width of my odd-shaped window,
and delivered to my door a la JCPenney.
It was a deal I couldn't turn down.
I figured while I was ordering one for my bedroom window,
I might as well get one for Walt's window too.
He's only had these thin curtains until now,
and they let a lot of light in.
So I figured I'd get one for Walter too,
to darken his room up for naps this summer.
Adam collected his tools and supplies,
while Walt inspected his new shade.
After a quick look at the instructions,
Adam and his little helper set to installing the shade.
It didn't take long to get one side up -

and then the other.
 A quick test run,
 and Walt's shade was up!
I knew light would still sneak in around the edges, but heck
it's a fabulous improvement for 18 bucks!
And it really makes the room dark!

So, the next stop was our bedroom window.
You have no idea how happy I was to get these down!
For Walt's bedroom I just got a white shade,
but for our room I went with a light taupe
because I hoped it would match our bedding.
Not bad, huh?
So Adam and Walt repeated the same steps -
and viola! - Our shade was installed.

This is so much better to look at
than that stupid old blanket and sheet.

My next mission is to find some curtains!

A Few Things I'm Thankful For -

The simple fact that it's -
Because I get to spend some time with my boy,
and you may be able to tell from this picture -
He's not feeling so hot.
He's got a fever and a cough
and is probably struggling with some more teeth,
so I'm glad I'm here today to hold him and rock him.

Both of my boys are down for a nap right now,
so I've been doing things around the house.
I'm excited about this -
Yep! I finally found a deal on some shades,
so I can fix this problem.
They arrived yesterday so looks like
we'll be doing some home improvement projects this weekend.

I'm also excited about these guys -
because they mean I'll probably have to do some baking soon.

And finally, I'm thankful for these guys -
because they've given me a 3 day weekend
in which to accomplish all of these tasks!

A Chair That Rocks

I've always got my eye on Craigslist
just to see what kind of treasures I can find.
And while I wasn't in the market for a new rocking chair,
I recently came across a listing for one that I couldn't turn down.
You may remember this brown rocker from Walt's room.
It was a steal at a garage sale last summer
and has served us well.
But when I saw this pretty antique rocking chair
selling for only 40 bucks, I had to go check it out.
When the seller said I could have it for $25,
I had no choice but to bring it on home.
And I'm so glad I did.
It fits in great!
 I love it,
and so does Walt -
and that's all that matters :)

His & Hers

Here's a quick Valentine's Day update for you guys.
For gifts, we went with simple tokens of our
love and affection this year.
Adam brought these to my office -
They were beautiful and made my office smell pretty.
I brought these home for Adam for dinner -
He thought it was a way better gift than the flowers he got me.
I tried one and I disagreed.
I much preferred the flowers.
I'm just not a wing girl - much to Adam's dismay.

Regardless, I know the way to my man's heart -
and oddly enough it's with a bunch of tiny chicken wings,
covered in various sauces, that he can stuff his face with.
That's my Adam.

Feeling a Bit Like This -

And still another 8 weeks to go.
