Today we had another lunch at the Law school. At this lunch we met and ate with faculty and staff who gave us an intro into the educational aspect of our stay. We start school on Monday and will be taking 3 classes: Norwegian Law & Legal Systems, Human Rights in Europe and Comparative Business Law. There are a number of interesting field trips thrown in as well so I am excited for class to start. After lunch Erica and I walked down to the train station to meet the IKEA bus. Some of our friends who came to Norway last year advised us that IKEA was the best place to buy cheap items to make our room more livable. It was great that IKEA has its own free bus that runs between the store and the train station. We got to check out the big city during the 25 mintues it took to get to the store. Speaking of our rooms, let me describe mine for you. Erica and I live on the 6th floor of Hus 5. We don't have to take the stairs everyday because there is an elevator (which we were very grateful for upon our arrival with all of our luggage). We always seem to take the stairs on the way down, but the elevator on the way up because we've usually been walking for hours. In our room there is 2 twin beds, a small desk, bookcase and table and chair. There is also a small kitchenette which consists of a dorm-sized fridge, a sink, and 2 burner plates. We purchased a tea kettle from IKEA so that we can make our morning coffee with my dad's french press. Everything is very expensive in Norway and Erica and I are both coffee lovers so we brought the french press and a few pounds of coffee so that we wouldn't have to buy coffee every morning. We also bought a saucepan and some utensils at IKEA so that we can make meals in our room in order to save cash. Here is the kitchenette. The top cupboards are for storage, as is the bottom right cupboard, but the left side on the bottom is the fridge.
The most interesting aspect of our room by far is the bathroom. It is basically one small room with a shower head on one wall directly opposite of the toilet with a small sink and counter next to the toilet. At first we thought there was no shower curtain, but thankfully we found one by the sink. What we did not find in our room was shower curtain hooks, so we've had no real way to hang our shower curtain for the last four days. We tied each end of the shower curtain to one of the loops it is supposed to hang from, but it doesn't really stay put and the entire bathroom is usually soaked by the time we're done. When the office opens on Monday we'll be first in line to get some shower curtain hooks!
Well atleast you are used to having less that perfect accomodations.... and Im sure you are happy that you atleast have a shower with warm water!
